The Garden of Remembrance (Gan Zikaron) Memorial Park in Clarksburg, Maryland
will hold its 22nd Annual Memorial Services on Sunday, September 18, 2022 at 10:00 am and 2:00 pm.

Annual visits to the graves of loved ones during the High Holy Day season is an ancient Jewish custom. Led by community clergy, the Garden of Remembrance invites families of those resting at Gan Zikaron to honor their loved ones and be inspired for the new year by rabbis and cantors from our Partner Congregations.

Due to the unknown status of the covid virus and its variants, current plans are to hold the outdoor services and request that masks be worn by attendees. The services will be live-streamed and can be accessed through the link on our website homepage (gardenofremembrance.org)

Families have the opportunity to submit names of loved ones to be remembered and announced by the clergy officiating at the memorial services. Names of loved ones may be submitted by emailing [email protected] or you may also fill out a form at https://www.gardenofremembrance.org/remember-your-loved-ones/. Please indicate which service you will be attending.

Representing the twenty-eight Garden of Remembrance Partner Congregations, the 10:00 am Memorial Service is scheduled to be led by Rabbi Susan Shankman and Cantor Susan Bortnick from Washington Hebrew Congregation and Rabbi Pokras from Temple Beth Ami. The 2:00 pm Memorial Service is scheduled to be led by Rabbi Michael Safra and Cantor Josh Perlman from B’nai Israel Congregation, Rabbi Rachel Ackerman of Temple Shalom, and Hazzan Henrique Ozur Bass from Congregation Har Shalom.

Henry “Hank” Levine, President of the Garden of Remembrance, and Judi Kranz, Vice-President, will welcome visitors to the Annual Memorial Services.

The Garden of Remembrance grounds will be open from 9:00 am through 4:00 pm on September 12th for families and community clergy to visit individual gravesites and recite personal prayers.
