Comus, Maryland, December 20, 2004…Temple Sinai is the most recent Washington-area congregation
to offer its members the opportunity to purchase burial areas at the Garden of Remembrance
(Gan Zikaron) Memorial Park in Clarksburg, Maryland.
Temple Sinai is the fifth Reform congregation among the thirteen congregations
represented at the Memorial Park. The synagogue is located in Washington, D.C. with a
membership of over 1,200 families.
“Temple Sinai’s participation further establishes the Garden of Remembrance as the region’s most inclusive Jewish cemetery,” said Robert Nath, president of the Memorial Park.
In addition to Temple Sinai, congregations that claim the Garden of Remembrance as an official cemetery are Adat Shalom Reconstructionist Congregation, Bethesda, Maryland; Beth Sholom Congregation, Potomac, Maryland; Talmud Torah, Potomac, Maryland; B’nai Tzedek, Potomac, Maryland; Ezras Israel Congregation, Rockville, Maryland; Har Tzeon-Agudath Achim, Silver Spring, Maryland; Kemp Mill Synagogue, Silver Spring, Maryland; Hevrat Shalom Congregation, Gaithersburg, Maryland; Shaare Torah, Gaithersburg, Maryland; Kehilat Shalom, Gaithersburg, Maryland; Temple Shalom, Chevy Chase, Maryland; Temple Beth Ami, Rockville, Maryland; and Washington Hebrew Congregation, Washington, D.C.
Established in 2000, the Garden of Remembrance is the region’s only not-for-profit cemetery operated by a board of Jewish community leaders. The Memorial Park is open to members of all congregations as well as those unaffiliated with a congregation. The cemetery provides comprehensive services in accordance with all branches of Judaism, reflecting the full range of Jewish practices and honoring personal preferences.
